Tips for Surviving Long-Distance Love
As I’ve previously mentioned in another post about long-distance relationships, when you’re a parent, it isn’t easy to pick up and move across the country for the sake of love. There are many parents who are in this situation, and must lead long-distance relationships for several months to even years in order to meet the needs of their children first. If you find that you suddenly become one of these parents, there are some great tips that can help to keep the relationship alive and fun even when you can’t be together.
In the tips that I will be providing, always exercise good common sense and only do things that you are comfortable with. Be sure that you really know and trust the person with whom you are corresponding with. If you have met online, be sure to follow the safety tips outlined in other posts on this blog. The following tips are for relationships where safety is not a concern.
- Use Webcam – Not only can you hear one another, but you can see one another.
- Use Chat or Text Messaging- For those times when you cannot use webcams or phone, use chat or text messaging. It’s live-time and can keep you in contact throughout the day.
- Send Fun, Romantic, or Sexy (not disgusting) Letters – to one another. Before you mail it, spray it with your cologne or perfume. Women can also seal it with a kiss (lipstick marks allowed).
- Mail or Courier Some of Your Stuff - If your dating partner loves your chocolate chip cookies, send some of those to him/her. Or send some intimate items to remind him/her of you.
- Make a Private Blog or Private Facebook Page (put it under a pseudoname so that you don’t have people contacting you to add them as your friend) – Make sure you both visit the site on a daily basis, and post romantic or fun things. Also make sure to post photos of things you’ve been up to, so that you can feel like you’re part of one another’s lives.
- Count Down the Days until You See One Another Again - This can build up some great excitement, but you can also make it fun. Send your boyfriend/girlfriend envelopes with the dates listed on them. Have him/her open up the envelope that corresponds to the date that day, and inside will be a little note that you had sealed in the envelope. You will have written down a romantic or sexy message that he/she can read.
- Do Something Together – even though you are miles apart, you can do something together at the same time. Perhaps, you can agree to watch a T.V. show together at a particular time. There are also online games such as checkers, etc. that you can play together.
